Dongfang relies on summer thermal wind, from March to August. The west coast heats up through the day and the wind builds strongly into the afternoon, when the east of the island is often calm.

Where to ride
- The Dongfang coast: An industrial city rather than a resort, so the beaches are quiet. We choose the launch on the day by wind direction.
Conditions
Dongfang, on the west coast, gets strong thermal wind all summer. It's our backup when nowhere else on the island has wind, and a good choice for independent riders who want reliable summer sessions.
Getting there
Dongfang is on the opposite side of the island from Bo'ao. We plan the trip, usually with an overnight stay.
