At Kite Surf China we believe in giving back to the local community and discovered a project in January 2012 that deserves a lot of attention and recognition for the great work it is doing in the local community.
In 2004 John and Maggie from America opened a centre for handicapped children in Sanya and started taking in several children with disabilities such as Autism and Cerebral Palsy. They started very small and finances everything privately and with help from friends and local businesses.
The centre has been growing year by year and what started as a small project in a 3 storey Villa has now progressed into something major with over 30 children living in a 5 storey rented hotel. They have over 15 staff that take care of the children in a very loving way and have worked out a special exercise and massage plan that helps the children.
A lot of these children have come from local government orphanages, which kindly agreed to let the children be cared for at The Bright Connect, as they realise that the care the children would receive there was exactly what they needed.
Here is the mission statement of The Bright Connection:
“Our purpose is to help handicapped children in China to have another place where they can feel at home, have fun and also progress physically and mentally from what ever point they come to us. Many parents have entrusted their Special children to The Bright Connection and appreciate the opportunity. They no longer need to live an isolated life which is often the way it has been for them. This also gives the caring parents time for a break from the intense care that is often required to care for the Special child. They love them enough and are wise enough to seek help. The Bright Connection is an answer.”
